Organized by UN Women Philippines in collaboration with
Mindanao Commission on Women (MCW)
With support from the Government of Canada

 
Objectives:

  1. To identify current and emerging challenges to the implementation of CEDAW and other gender equality commitments and promote an integrated approach to improving women’s human rights in Mindanao;
  2. To facilitate ‘learning and sharing’ among gender equality advocates and WHR practitioners and provide an opportunity to hear about good practices in the country and in Southeast Asia;
  3. To introduce UN Women’s Regional Programme on “Improving Women’s Human Rights in Southeast Asia,” and UNW’s strategic and programmatic approach to Mindanao, and identify strategic areas around which partnerships and collaboration can be strengthened.

Participants:

  • Government and civil society representatives from different regions in Mindanao, with focus on conflict-affected areas and context of plural legal systems;
  • Resource persons from government and civil society from the National Capital Region (NCR);
  • UN Women regional and country staff (CEDAW SEAP Team), who will also serve as resource persons, particularly on UN Women’s CEDAW SEAP II programme and good practices in Southeast Asia around CEDAW implementation and women’s access to justice;
  • Members of UN and international development community (Canada)

  • Dr. Soccorro L. Reyes, Regional Governance Adviser – The Center for Legislative Development International and Former Chief, Asia and the Pacific and the Arab States UN Women;
  • Irene Santiago, Chair Emerita of Mindanao Commission on Women;
  • Atty. Laisa Alamia, Executive Secretary – Officer of the Governor of Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao;
  • Aurora Javate de Dios, Philippine Representative of ACWC and Executive Director of Women and Gender Institute;
  • Victoria Tauli-Corpuz, Executive Director of Tebtebba Foundation
