Event description

The next session of the EViS Roundtable welcomes Lemalu Sina Retzlaff to share her personal experiences with domestic violence and to discuss some of the key factors that contribute to gender-based violence in Samoa. Lemalu will also discuss what attitudinal changes are needed in order to inspire be-havioural changes in the next generation of Samoan men and women.

Lemalu is currently the Country Representative of the Australian Government's Pacific Leadership Program and also owns small businesses in Apia. She was an active member of the Samoa Chamber of Commerce and served as secretary for two years before leading the organisation for three years as its first and, to date, only woman president. Lemalu has extensive boardroom experience, and has served on the boards of the Central Bank of Samoa, the National University of Samoa and the Samoa Qualifications Authority as well as family-owned companies. She is an Accredited Mediator and regularly conducts court-annexed mediations. She was awarded a PLP/PACMAS/PiPP Fellowship in 2012 to explore domestic violence in Samoa with a focus on intimate partner relationships. Lemalu has three sons aged 14, 12 and 10.
