Event description

Objectives:

  • To develop  the capacity  of participants to effectively challenge discriminatory laws and practices against women in their countries by applying international conventions and precedents as well as applying critical lens to the structural barriers women face
  • To build knowledge and skills to analyse and critique discriminatory laws and practices from feminist and rights-based perspectives.
  • To advocate for progressive feminist legislation and policy formulation at local and national levels  
  • To build a community of feminist activists, lawyers, policy makers and implementers who are committed to advance women’s rights through law.

Expected Outcomes:

The project is expected to result in increased capacity of legal professionals and gender advocates in the region to use human rights concepts, as enshrined in CEDAW, and other relevant human rights instrument and domestic laws to engage in legal and judicial reform, strategic litigation and brings impact cases that promote the rights of women; to expand pool of trainers in the region; and promote online platform and network of women’s rights advocates.
