HeForShe Launch Event in Macau and Forum: “He” Role in Global Gender Equality

Macau, China — The General Women’s Association of Macau (GWAM) organized the event on 19th November 2016 in Macau Tower, to launch HeForShe campaign in Macau under the theme of “He” Role in Global Gender Equality. The aim of this event is to extend the understanding of gender equality, and the importance to involve men and boys to do so, to a bigger population. As a result, it is expected that more people will stand up against sex discrimination and gender inequalities. GWAM invited representatives of different social sectors to talk about their opinions on gender equality from various perspectives. In taking these actions, attending people had the chance to become active advocates of the HeForShe campaign and equal agents for a positive social change.

Apart from being a good opportunity to promote HeForShe campaign in the Macau Special Administrative Region, the event also let UN Women to network with representatives of GWAM, local private sector and the Chinese government. The occasion had television outreach at a national level, brought a very diverse audience including government officials, people from sports and private sector, and it is expected to have more dissemination on social media.

This is a unique opportunity to know about possible practices of promoting gender equality in different social sectors and learn about opinions from various perspectives. Let’s work together because gender inequality is everybody’s business!’ added Miwa Kato, Regional Director of UN Women Asia and the Pacific on her remarks during the launch event, supporting further potential collaborations to promote gender equality in greater China.
