UN Women and Global Goodwill Ambassador jointly organized Fundraising Gala

Beijing, China — UN Women and Global Goodwill Ambassador jointly hosted a fundraising event in Beijing, China on 10 December, 2017. The theme was "Hand in Hand for Gender Equality" to support gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

The partnership was established at a successful Charity Fundraising Gala in 2016, during which 200,000 USD was raised to support UN Women's work in China. In light of the success of the last event, the second Charity Fundraising Gala was held today to raise funds for UN Women China, supporting their work on gender equality and women's empowerment.

This charity initiative was held in response to Chinese President Xi Jinping's remarks made in September 2015 at the "Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment: A Commitment to Action" at UN Headquarters. He demonstrated his support of the advancement of women globally and the work of UN Women, calling for the global Chinese community to promote gender equality and protect the rights of women and girls around the world.

UN Women Country Programme Manager Julie Broussard said, "Events such as this one do not only provide support UN Women's work through fundraising, but the fact of us coming together also shows the unity and the commitment of different organizations to promote gender equality in China.

Three co-chairs of the Global Goodwill Ambassador organization, Ms. Anna Li, Ms. Yen Chou, and Ms. Yanhong Jiang, were present at today's fundraising event. Ms. Li, President of Beijing Liu Jiu Culture Development and organizer of the charity fundraising event, stated "I am elated that we can organize this fundraising event once again to support UN Women and its ongoing work in China." Ms. Chou, President of Chinese American Parent-Student Council, an organization that has special consultative NGO status with United Nations ECOSOC, stated that Global Goodwill Ambassador will support the UN and play a significant role in protecting women's rights, including the promotion of the "Mother Earth" initiative.

Also, Mr. Changdong Xu, the chairman of Western Returned Scholars Association Entrepreneur Alliance (WRSAEA) attended the event to show their full support.

The event organizers have specified that the allocation of the $100,000 USD will go towards supporting the work of UN Women in China. The Gala featured professional performances and held an auction of precious artworks. UN Women and Global Goodwill Ambassador also presented certificates of appreciation to the supporters of the event.
