Over the past 5 years, Sweden has contributed over USD 15m of non-core funding in support of UN Women’s activities in the region. Sweden currently supports two regional programmes that focus on climate change and access to justice. In addition to these regional programmes, Sweden has consistently supported UN Women’s Strategic Note in Afghanistan and provided funding to further UN Women’s mandate in various other countries including Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal and Viet Nam – focusing on multiple thematic issues including ending violence against women, women’s economic empowerment, and leadership & political participation. Sweden is also a strong advocate of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and of the HeForShe movement across the region.
