National Women’s Machineries

Typically serving as central coordinating units for the advancement of women and gender equality within national governments, these national machineries promote the integration of gender equality measures across national policies and programmes. They are vital partners throughout the process of developing national legal framework and actions to achieve international commitments on women’s human rights and gender equality, including the Beijing Platform for Action and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

UN Women works to strengthen gender machineries, both nationally and regionally (through mechanisms such as ASEAN and the Gender in Humanitarian Working Group (GiHA)), to further support and fortify their networks, capacities, advocacy efforts and provide linkages with other stakeholders.
