UN Women Myanmar’s strategic focus is aligned with and contributes to Myanmar’s national priorities as outlined in the Myanmar National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women (2013-2022), the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan 2018-2030, and the Myanmar UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2018-2022.

Investing in women’s empowerment and gender equality is not just a development and human rights imperative, but is also a pathway to bridging the humanitarian-development divide and reaching the realisation of peace, stability and resilient communities in Myanmar. If:

  1. Institutions at state/regional levels promote and respond to gender equality and women’s rights in line with international norms and standards’
  2. More women have increased livelihood security, access to decent work and safe migration; and
  3. More women lead and participate in peace processes, humanitarian action and disaster risk reduction

Then gender equality is advanced and women and girls in Myanmar lead, benefit from and contribute to peace, development at prosperity of the country - the ultimate goal of UN Women Myanmar. The impact areas that will contribute to these goals are leadership and governance; economic empowerment and; peace, humanitarian action and disaster risk reduction.
