This study examines how volunteerism contributes to the prevention of and response to gender-based violence (GBV) in Cambodia. Through interviews and focus groups with volunteers, GBV survivors, and staff from seven organizations, the study identifies key volunteer roles—community, office, and international—and explores their impact, challenges, and training needs. Findings highlight the essential role of volunteers in reaching underserved areas and sustaining GBV programmes, while also noting gaps in gender understanding, safety, and support. The report offers practical recommendations for NGOs, the UN, and policymakers to strengthen volunteerism as a tool for community-based GBV prevention and response. This publication was produced under the UN Joint Programme Partners for Prevention (2008–2017) implemented by UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women, and UNV, with support from Australia.
