Planim Save Kamap Strongpela: A Qualitative Endline Study of an Intervention to Build Peace and Reduce Gender-Based Violence in South Bougainville

This qualitative endline study explores the impacts of the Planim Save Kamap Strongpela intervention in South Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. Developed in response to the region’s history of conflict and high rates of gender-based violence, the intervention was implemented through community conversations and counselling across 19 village assemblies. It focused on gender-based violence, human rights, trauma healing, and peacebuilding. Grounded in the lived realities of Bougainville communities, the study highlights the programme’s potential to transform harmful gender norms, support healing, and build more peaceful and equitable communities. Insights from this evaluation will help refine the intervention and guide future efforts to prevent violence and promote gender equity in post-conflict settings. This publication was produced under the UN Joint Programme Partners for Prevention (2008–2017) implemented by UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women, and UNV, with support from Australia.
