The Impact of Climate Change on Gender-Based Violence in Indonesia
This report seeks to understand the linkages between gender, climate change, and security in Indonesia as new dimensions of gender and climate change. The study also aims to investigate the links between climate change and harmful practices, particularly ones that contribute to vulnerabilities in disaster events or climate crises that might increase risks of gender-based violence. Selected key sectors, which include disaster risk reduction, food security, extractive industries, social forestry and marine and fisheries, are assessed to present more evidence of the link between climate change and gender equality.
These sectors are chosen based on the characteristics of sectors and regions with hazard scale, the degree of risks, and vulnerabilities as proxy climate indicators. These sectors are also included among national sectoral adaptation strategies. The selection of the sectors is additionally informed by inputs and consultation from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, UN Women and the United Nations Population Fund.
