Myanmar earthquake one year on: gendered impacts and recovery priorities
This infographic presents key gender findings and recovery priorities one year after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that affected more than 9.1 million people in the hardest-hit areas in Myanmar.
Developed by the Myanmar Gender in Humanitarian Action (GiHA) Working Group, it draws on findings from a Rapid Gender Analysis conducted in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, and inputs from local and women-led organisations engaged in the response and recovery.
The infographic highlights the disproportionate impacts of the earthquake on women, girls and marginalised groups, including heightened protection risks, disruptions to essential services, and loss of livelihoods. It also identifies ongoing challenges affecting recovery, including for persons with disabilities and LGBTIQ+ persons, who face additional barriers to access and participation. The infographic also outlines key priorities to support a more inclusive and gender-responsive recovery.
