In Brief: Rohingya Response
This Brief outlines the approach of UN Women Bangladesh to responding to one of the world’s largest refugee crises - the Rohingya refugee crisis in Cox’s Bazar. Over half the refugees are women and girls, whose lives are shaped by protracted displacement, restrictive social norms, limited livelihood opportunities, and heightened risks to their safety and wellbeing. Cox’s Bazar is one of the poorest districts in Bangladesh, and the crisis places significant pressure on host communities, exacerbating vulnerabilities among women and girls.
UN Women is responding through an integrated approach that strengthens resilience and advances gender-responsive protection, working in partnership with women-led organizations and leveraging its coordination role to support gender equality results across sectors. The Brief summarizes key results achieved between 2022 and 2025 achieved with the generous support of UN Women's partners (Australia, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund). The Brief also features the story of a Rohingya woman, illustrating the impact of UN Women’s support.
