Nepal Flash Floods: UN Women Gender Alert #2 (7 September 2026)
Severe flooding along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems has caused mass casualties and displacement across six districts in northern and central Nepal. Without targeted, gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) responsive action, women and girls in all their diversity face heightened risks to their safety, health, livelihoods, and recovery.
This Gender Alert is issued in support of the UN’s Nepal Rasuwa Flood Flash Appeal. It is intended to inform prioritization, coordination and resource allocation of decisions within the Appeal through a gender and social inclusion lens.
Women’s rights organizations (WROs) are already at the frontline of this response: they are closer to affected communities, trusted within them, and positioned to see needs through an intersectional, leave-no-one-behind lens.
While the first Gender Alert drew on baseline data and lessons from previous disasters, this second edition is grounded in consultations with more than twenty civil society organizations led by and focusing on women, Indigenous women, Dalit women, youth, persons with disabilities and other marginalized identities, supplemented by situation reports, government updates, and field observations.
