The objective of the report is to examine the legal gaps that are hindering expenditure allocation and reporting on the landscape of expenditures on GE. Subsequently, a step-by-step roadmap has been presented to strengthen the development, implementation and tracking of gender-responsive budgets toward the achievement of national commitments to the SDGs.

This book is a compendium consolidating 8 good practices from ASEAN member states, organized along the four Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 priorities of understanding disaster risk, strengthening risk governance, investing in DRR for resilience, and enhancing disaster preparedness for building back better.

Funded by the Swedish International Development Agency, the EmPower project aims to contribute to the implementation of climate change and disaster risk reduction actions in Asia and the Pacific that address the key drivers of gender-based vulnerabilities while enhancing human rights.

The brief showcases the contributions of UN Women Viet Nam in supporting and working with the Government of Viet Nam, civil society, and other stakeholders to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in Viet Nam. The brief is meant to be accessible to any reader by providing an introduction to UN Women and what we do; by sharing the about impact on 4 areas of our work: Policy Advocacy, Programmes, Coordination, and Outreach.

This photobook is developed to share the typical journey of change of selected teachers and students who joined efforts to reduce gender-based violence in schools. These courageous teachers and students participated in piloting the Toolkit “Connect with respect: preventing gender-based violence in schools: Classroom Programme for Students in Early Secondary School (age 11-14)”, which was jointly implemented by the Department for Political Education and Students Affairs, Ministry of Education and Training (PESAD-MOET) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNWomen) in Viet Nam, from end of 2018 to mid of 2020, in 5 secondary schools at 5 provinces.

This 10-year implementation of the National Target Programme on New Rural Development has resulted in significant improvements in the socio-economic development of rural Vietnam. By the end of 2020, 62.4 per cent of rural communes met the New Rural Development standard; the average attainment of the NRD criteria was 16.4 out of a total of 19 criteria. Despite such remarkable improvements, there are still sizable gender gaps in terms of employment, property ownership, and access to public services in rural areas, especially in poor districts and communes. The burden of unpaid care work hinders equal access for women to opportunities; gender-based violence remains high at places.

The two National Target Programs on New Rural Development and Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2016-2020 have achieved important results. There have been more than 6 million people escaping poverty, approximately 2 million people escaping near poverty; 62.4 per cent of communes met the New Rural Development standard. However, there are still sizable gender gaps in terms of employment, property ownership, and access to public services in rural areas, especially in poor districts.

With this reading guide of the book series “Generation Equality - Fairy Tales on Gender Equality” we hope that every parent, teacher, and educator - through reading time at home, reading lessons at school, or reading activities in the community - will continue to inspire, as well as spread the message of humanity and progress of the book series to a wider range of children across Viet Nam.

The UN Women Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards is the first regional awards initiative that recognizes companies who are taking action for gender equality in the region aligned to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), with the ultimate objective to make good practices visible and encourage more business to take action by joining the WEPs.

This document will focus on examining the impact of COVID-19 on ethnic minority groups in Viet Nam, especially ethnic minority women. It will also analyze the implementation efficiency of direct cash transfer and social protection policies for ethnic minority groups from a gender equality lens. The document will propose policy recommendations towards the development and implementation of supporting policies and programmes in emergency situations to ensure gender responsiveness.

Gender statistics in Viet Nam 2020 is a joint publication compiled and developed by General Statistic Office (GSO), Viet Nam Women’s Union and UN Women Viet Nam. The report provides information and statistics for readers to understand the existing gender relations and gender gaps in society. It also presents gender statistics in 2018 according to various topics, such as: Population, family, education, health, labour and employment, and leadership and management.

The “UN Women impact stories series”, updated quarterly, illustrates the human impact of UN Women’s work across Asia and the Pacific, highlighting the partnerships that make this work possible. These stories share how we and our many partners are striding forward to realize a better world for women and girls—one of equality and empowerment because that is what we do and who we are, as a leader, mobilizer, convenor, and provider of programmes.

The Review report on the implementation of the National Strategy on Gender Equality (NSGE) 2011-2020 presents an overall review in realizing the objectives, targets and solutions of the NSGE 2011-2020 which serve as a basis for devising NSGE 2021-2030. In addition, the report provides analyses on achievements coupled with obstacles and challenges in the implementation of the NSGE 2011-2020 at various levels of national, ministerial/sectoral and local levels.

The policy brief was developed based on the results of the Survey on the Socio-Economic Situation of 53 Ethnic Minority Group in Viet Nam in 2019 and other recent research results related to ethnic minority issues in Viet Nam. The policy brief aims to support the process of formulating and implementing policy for ethnic minority areas, contributing to an effective and comprehensive promotion of gender equality in ethnic minority areas as Viet Nam.

The report Figures on Ethnic Minority Women and Men in Viet Nam 2015-2019 presents gender analysis and highlights gender outcomes, and provide policy recommendations for gender equality promotion in ethnic minority areas in Viet Nam. Data in the reports were analysed based on the Survey on the Socio-economic Situation of the 53 Ethnic Minority Groups in Viet Nam, which was conducted by the General Statistics Office in collaboration with CEMA in 2015 and 2019.

The Safe and Fair Project, in particular, focuses on addressing the needs of women especially women migrant workers and women in informal employment in this policy document while advocacy interventions of the G20 project target other marginalized groups such as people with disabilities and ethnic minority groups. The interventions on gender equality, gender and labour migration are in line with Viet Nam’s commitments on these issues through ratification of International Labour Standards, UN CEDAW and at ASEAN level (ASEAN Consensus, ASEAN Declaration on Ending violence against women among others).

The report aims at specifically outlining the operation of gender equality principles in the State Budget Law 2015 in a specific area of public transport. It records initial results, challenges and difficulties in implementing gender responsive budgeting initiatives in public passenger transport management in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2017 – 2020 to promote gender equality and safe cities for women and girls Ho Chi Minh City.

This report collects evidence and analyzes the gendered impacts of climate change in the key adaptation and mitigation sectors of Viet Nam. It was prepared in a partnership between ISPONRE, UNEP, and UN Women and aims to contribute to the efforts of the Government of Viet Nam to implement its climate goals in an inclusive and gender-responsive manner. The report shares information on the status of gender mainstreaming in climate-related policies and identifies areas for further improvements in terms of policy-making, institutional capacity building, as well as coordination and research.

The report aims to provide a better understanding for policymakers in Asia about what focusing on human rights and gender equality in the context of climate change entails in practice.

Effective coordination and referrals are essential to respond to the needs of women migrant workers subject to violence. Safe and Fair has created a regional service directory for this purpose. The service directory enables referrals of women, including women migrant workers survivors of violence, by sharing information on available violence against women (VAW) specialized service providers across the region.
