GiHA Bangladesh designed this checklist to support the Humanitarian Coordination Task Team (HCTT) and humanitarian practitioners in integrating gender equality in their disaster preparedness efforts for the monsoon and cyclone season in Bangladesh.

This is an initiative of the Gender in Humanitarian action working group (GiHA) Bangladesh co-chaired by UN Women Bangladesh and the Department of Women’s Affairs of the government of Bangladesh.

This brief provides an evidence-based analysis of recent trends in online hate speech. Focused on Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, this brief analyses misogynistic hate speech which has occurred in the context of increasing polarization, shrinking democratic space and the ongoing gendered impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Four Technical Briefs have been developed by Practical Action, one of the responsible parties of UN Women Bangladesh under “EmPower: Women for Climate Resilient Societies” project. The technical briefs were developed on four livelihood options for women farmers with an aim to document the innovation and the local knowledge that was transformed during the project implementation.

The photo story book “From Where I stand” is a tribute to the gender equality champions who made exemplary efforts in reducing risks and shaping a sustainable future. It is an initiative under the National Resilience Programme (NRP) with the Government of Bangladesh to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in national disaster risk reduction policies and practices. The programme is supported by the Government of Sweden and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

This Brief is a situation analysis of gender equality in Bangladesh. It gives a snapshot of the country’s progress on key gender equality issues in the areas of governance; women, peace, and security; ending violence against women; economic empowerment; climate change and disaster risk reduction, and humanitarian response.

Community Risk Assessment (CRA) has been conducted in five most climate vulnerable districts of Bangladesh: Kurigram, Jamalpur, Khulna, Satkhira, and Cox’s Bazar. Five disaster risk reduction action plans have been developed to address the needs and vulnerabilities of different group of people.

The report aims to strengthen country-driven processes by presenting more evidence of the links between gender equality and climate change in the priority sectors of crop agriculture, water resource management, forestry, and renewable energy.

A pilot survey was conducted by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) with the technical support from UN Women to collect data on Sex, Age, and Disability Disaggregation on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction in three most climate vulnerable districts of Bangladesh.

The RGA includes the key impacts and emerging issues of access to shelter, safety, security and protection food and income, reproductive health services and WASH facilities keeping women and most marginalized community in consideration. The report also puts forward some immediate and long-term key recommendations.

The National Resilience Programme aimed to sustain the resilience of human and economic development in Bangladesh through inclusive, gender-responsive disaster management and risk-informed development. The endline survey report gives an overview of what has worked well and what are the areas that can be improved in future.

Sabiha is a student of the UN Women – DanChurchAid (DCA) Second Chance Education Learning Programme being implemented in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. UN Women with its implementing partner DCA has been implementing the Second Chance Education Learning Programme in the Rohingya Refugee camp and host community in Cox’s Bazar to support women and adolescent girls through a learning programme to enhance their self-reliance and empowerment.
