Toward Gender Responsive Economic Recovery: An Analysis of AtmaNirbhar Bharat Stimulus Package for Women-Owned Businesses
Women entrepreneurs have always faced multiple challenges—from lack of working capital to difficulties in coordination of their businesses due to their care and domestic responsibilities. These obstacles have only increased since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. 70% of women entrepreneurs reported being ineligible for credit under the recently launched Government of India’s AtmaNirbhar Bharat economic stimulus package.
This publication brings together the collective outcomes of both the Gender-Based Violence Area of Responsibility (GBV AoR) Task Team on Localization regional consultation in Asia and the Pacific (Bangkok, Thailand, August 2019), and the Voice-Visibility-Influence Consultation (Jakarta, Indonesia, August 2019), with case studies presented at the events and submitted by Gender in Humanitarian Action Working Group members.
The capacity of Cyclone Preparedness Programme and Flood Preparedness Programme volunteers for gender -inclusive preparedness and response
This study, conducted in April-May 2017, sought to understand the current capacity of volunteers engaged in disaster management, particularly those working for the cyclone and flood preparedness programmes in Bangladesh. It also seeks to establish their institutional arrangements for gender-responsive community preparedness and response to mitigate the challenges of catastrophic cyclones, floods and earthquakes.Over the last four decades, volunteers have helped to save thousands of lives and properties in Bangladesh and this unique initiative is well recognized and lauded by the global disaster risk reduction community.
