With the generous funding from KOICA under UN-KOICA Joint Project Together for Equality: preventing and responding to gender-based violence, UN Women and Rede Feto has been collaborating with the Ministry of Public Works since August 2022 and conducted two Women Safety Audit Walks at the Ministry of Public Works Office and the second is at Largo Lecidere Park. Here is the finding and recommendation to the Ministry of Public Works, which has been integrated by the Ministry into its annual work plan. 

UN Women is a lead technical partner for supporting gender mainstreaming in the programme. In 2021, in addition to the establishment of partnership, as a result of UN Women’s advocacy and technical support, a Gender Action Plan has been developed, with an aim for enhancing the gender responsiveness of the programme interventions, at a total cost of USD 173 million. The Gender Action Plan has been integrated into the Project Management Manual for local government partners for guiding implementation at 10 pilot counties in Hunan from 2022 to 2026.

This 10-year implementation of the National Target Programme on New Rural Development has resulted in significant improvements in the socio-economic development of rural Vietnam. By the end of 2020, 62.4 per cent of rural communes met the New Rural Development standard; the average attainment of the NRD criteria was 16.4 out of a total of 19 criteria. Despite such remarkable improvements, there are still sizable gender gaps in terms of employment, property ownership, and access to public services in rural areas, especially in poor districts and communes. The burden of unpaid care work hinders equal access for women to opportunities; gender-based violence remains high at places.

The report aims at specifically outlining the operation of gender equality principles in the State Budget Law 2015 in a specific area of public transport. It records initial results, challenges and difficulties in implementing gender responsive budgeting initiatives in public passenger transport management in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2017 – 2020 to promote gender equality and safe cities for women and girls Ho Chi Minh City.

Following years of advocacy from the women’s movement on the problem of sexual harassment and violence against women in public spaces, UN Women conducted a safe cities scoping study with diverse partners in the capital Dili, with exploratory discussions for conducting a safety audit in 3 Dili sites and the Baucau central marketplace. Safety Audit seeks to identify key concerns of women’ safety and sexual violence against women and girls. The audit assessed the situation on the safety of women at selected areas in Jakarta through information gathering and data collection using different tools and methods. The research aims to help key stakeholders design program and interventions to make cities safer for women and girls.

UN Women entered into a partnership with ANANDI to strengthen gender perspectives in the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) and to gear the NRLM towards gender equality and women’s empowerment.  Two State Rural Livelihood Missions of Madhya Pradesh (MPSRLM) and Bihar (JEEViKA BRLPS) were identified, and pilots were initiated under this program in select districts. A Regional Study of Interventions to Enhance Women and Girls’ Safety and Mobility in Public Spaces, Asia and the Pacific Region In public and private spaces, women and girls experience and fear various types of violence, ranging from harassment, to rape and femicide. Momentum is growing around the issue of women and girls’ safety in urban, public spaces. However, given that this is a relatively new field of work, published evidence of the impacts of such interventions remain.
