The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has further magnified the challenges faced by vulnerable groups in Nepal. The Gender in Humanitarian Action Task Team (GiHA-TT), a multi-stakeholder network of Civil Society Organizations, International Development Partners, UN agencies and Government of Nepal, chaired by UN Women Nepal has been actively advancing the incorporation of gender equality and social inclusion into Nepal’s responses to the pandemic.

Each monsoon season, Nepal becomes particularly vulnerable to floods and landslides caused by heavy rain. This year, experts are predicting that Nepal will receive even more rainfall than normal between June and September. The current wave of COVID-19 has already severely impacted vulnerable populations – and now a heavy monsoon season is likely to further exacerbate their condition.
