The Constitution guarantees women's rights as a fundamental right, reaffirms the right to safe motherhood and reproductive health, education, health, employment, equal pay, social security and property rights and guarantees inclusion of women in all state bodies on the basis of principle of proportional inclusion. While legal frameworks provide solid ground for advancing the rights of women and marginalized groups, there are still challenges for translating legal equality into substantive equality for women and girls in Nepal.

They were developed on the basis of the IASC Policy Statement on Gender Equality in Humanitarian Action (November 2017)1, and in light of lessons learned from the Ebola and Zika outbreaks and emerging gender impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is to mobilize inter-agency support within the Nepal Humanitarian Country Team in ensuring these principles are reflected in the emergency response activities in support of the Government of Nepal.

Report (the final report of Timor-Leste’s Truth and Reconciliation Reception).The manual also compliments other training manuals which focus on the transmission of more specific skills in leadership, mediation, conflict resolution, and trauma healing.

Improving the Lives of Women Survivors in Timor-Leste

The research report provides an insight into the lives of 77 women survivors across three municipalities, Baucau, Covalima and Ouecusse; and shows results from Participatory Action Research (PAR) that many women survivors remain vulnerable because of existing inequalities, such as limited access to social assistance, information, and their rights, which then restricts their ability to meet their needs and escape conditions of economic vulnerability. To address these issues, ACbit concludes with five recommendations to present to the Government, civil society groups and the community in 2020.

Taking forward the spirit of Agenda 2030, the programme reached out to women from excluded and marginalised groups: returnee women migrant workers, survivors of human trafficking, conflict-affected women, rural women, women living with HIV and AIDS and home-based workers. In addition to training women to support income generation and leadership, the AWEE Programme also engaged with stakeholders such as national and sub-national governments, the private sector, civil society and communities to address discriminatory social norms and harmful practices. This coffee table book brings together stories which demonstrate that when women have economic opportunities, families and communities are supportive, and resources (financial, knowledge) are accessible; transformative change is possible.
