Climate Action, Humanitarian Action and Disaster Risk Reduction
Climate change, disasters and humanitarian crises are becoming more frequent and severe across Asia and the Pacific. They do not affect everyone equally. Gender inequalities shape how women and girls experience risk, access to information and services, participate in decision-making and prepare for, respond to and recover from crises.
Women and girls are also leaders, innovators, first responders and decision-makers. Their knowledge and lived experiences are critical to reducing risks, strengthening resilience and ensuring climate and crisis efforts are effective, inclusive and accountable.
UN Women connects climate action, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian action by helping shift the systems that shape risk, response and resilience across Asia and the Pacific.
Focus areas
How we work
Across climate action, humanitarian action and disaster risk reduction, UN Women works with governments, regional institutions, women-led and women’s rights organizations, civil society, United Nations partners, humanitarian actors and development partners to:
- Strengthen policies, plans, institutions and financing systems;
- Support women’s leadership and participation in decision-making;
- Generate and use gender data, analysis and evidence;
- Strengthen coordination across sectors and crisis settings; and
- Support women’s resilience, livelihoods, protection and leadership.
