Event description

Hosted by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, together with the Asia-Pacific Adaptation Network Secretariat at UN Environment Programme, the 7th Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum will be held virtually on 8-12 March 2021 under the theme: Enabling Resilience for All: The Critical Decade to Scale-up Action.

Join us as the EmPower project supports three events:

March 8 - The Role of Women In Climate Change Adaptation (1630 GMT+7)

Because of gender disparities, women are most often the ones who take the brunt of the negative effects of climate change. This event, organized by the Embassy of Italy in Bangkok in partnership with UN Women and Jobel Art for Earth, aims to highlight the ways that women’s leadership can effectively and positively impact society’s ability to adapt to climate change. Short engaging discussions by the panelists will be complemented by artistic performances to engage the audience and stimulate deeper reflection on the topic.

March 9 - Supporting Human Rights-based Resilience for All (1400 GMT+7)

A human rights-based approach can be used to guide policies and measures of climate change mitigation and adaptation to ensure that no one is left behind. The panel discussion will provide an opportunity for people and civil society organizations to discuss the adverse impacts of climate change on the effective enjoyment of the rights of vulnerable peoples. Particular attention will be given to good practices in the gender-responsive and human rights-based approach to the planning and processes of the climate adaptation. This event is organized by OHCHR Regional Office for South-east Asia, with the support of OHCHR Regional Office for the Pacific, UNEP ROAP, UN Women ROAP, and the EmPower Project.

March 11 -  Building community resilience by scaling up women’s access to technologies and strengthening voice and leadership (1115 GMT+7)

A gender perspective and ultimately, gender equality is key to building climate resilience. This session, organized by the EmPower project, will provide the audience with tangible and concrete experiences of the value of gender responsive measures on resilience building through access to technology and enhanced voice and leadership of women. It will also show evidence on what difference a gender perspective can make to climate resilient development and addressing the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19.
