Date:

Vientiane, Lao PDR - Ten teachers and 60 students from the Vientiane Secondary School completed a pilot teaching and learning on gender equality and gender-based violence concepts using a manual developed by UN Women in partnership with the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and supported by the Australian Government.

To celebrate this achievement, the students at the school, aged 13-15, performed dances, held a debate and staged three short drama plays centered on the topic of ending violence against women and girls. The teachers involved in the training received a special recognition, and the students were awarded with learning certificates.

The manual used for the training was developed under UN Women’s Regional Programme on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls. Teachers involved in the implementation of the manual provided feedback to UN Women officers in Vientiane, which represents an essential step to complete the pilot intervention.

The activity demonstrated the commitment and strong partnership established with the MoES, which has publicly recognized that investing in young people is essential to end violence against women and girls.
