“Women’s political participation is a fundamental prerequisite for gender equality and genuine democracy. In 1992 Cambodia ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The move responded to the groundswell of grassroots momentum built by women who were fighting to pull themselves out of poverty and neglect and who were, one by one, claiming their rights to peace and development.
