Christine Arab, Regional Director for UN Women Asia and the Pacific, will undertake an official mission to Pakistan from 2–4 December 2025 to strengthen partnerships with government institutions, development partners, civil society, and the private sector in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment. Beginning in Islamabad and concluding in Karachi, the visit will feature high-level engagements across government, UN agencies, private sector leaders, and civil society organizations.

During the mission, the Regional Director will hold high-level meetings with senior government officials—including the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus of the National Assembly, the Minister of Law and Justice, and the Chair of the National Commission on the Status of Women—to drive forward collective action on gender-responsive legislation, accelerate legal reforms, and strengthen women’s access to justice across Pakistan.

Coinciding with the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, she will join the UN Country Team and partners in reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to ending GBV through two major events in Islamabad and Karachi.

In Karachi, Ms. Arab will visit the Anti-Rape Crisis Cell (ARCC) and implementing partners to observe the survivor-centred response model in practice. She will also meet with Soorty Enterprises, a Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) signatory, to highlight private sector leadership in fostering gender-responsive workplaces and women’s economic participation.

The mission will further engage bilateral and multilateral development partners on expanding collaboration around women’s economic empowerment, digital inclusion, and policy advocacy, aligned with Pakistan’s commitments to Beijing+30 and Sustainable Development Goal 5.

Through this visit, UN Women aims to deepen strategic partnerships, showcase programme achievements, and ensure that gender equality remains central to Pakistan’s national development and humanitarian priorities.
