National Training of Trainers on CEDAW

Objectives of the workshop
The overall objective of the training of trainers is to contribute towards building national capacity to sustainably assess existing laws and bills for compliance with CEDAW norms and standards. Specifically the national training of trainers will have the following purposes:
- To form a core group of trainers to assist governments and civil society s to provide training for the CEDAW- based legal reviews at the national level;
- To introduce participants with the CEDAW legal review methodologies;
- Identify relevance, gaps and suggest changes for set of legislative indicators as per participants experiences and contexts of individual countries;
- To draw a draft road map among the participants to conduct following-up national level trainings and the work toward legal reform for compliance with CEDAW
Expected results
The following are the expected results of the workshop:
a) The participants are well familiar with the CEDAW Convention and its principles;
b) A core group of national trainers formed to carry out capacity development activities towards CEDAW based assessments;
c) Increased knowledge of participants on the methodologies and approaches for legislative assessment of national laws for compliance with CEDAW;
d) A mechanism for increased networking and sharing of experiences among the group of trainers established;
e) A road map / plan to roll out national level trainings drawn.
Participants and resource persons
The training of trainers will bring altogether 25 selected participants who are involved in legislative reform to form a core group of trainers for subsequent trainings at the national level. The participants will be from King Prachadhipok’s Institute, Law Reform Commission of Thailand, Council of State, executive arm of the government from social development sector, Thammasat university, women’s groups at national and sub-national levels.
Moreover, internationally recognized experts with solid experience of conducting legal reviews and assessments for compliance with CEDAW and national experts will be selected to carry out the training of trainers.
