Event description

With the support of the Government of Canada through the Departments of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) – UN Women through the implementation of its Regional Programme on Improving Women’s Human Rights in South East Asia will organize a regional consultation on titled, “Regional Consultation with National Women's Machineries on Strengthening CEDAW Implementation, Monitoring and Accountability”. The consultation aims to better understand the challenges faced by NWMs in CEDAW reporting and monitoring processes, and aims to share existing CEDAW monitoring and accountability tools and good practices, agree to a plan of action for the implementation of CEDAW Concluding Observations and their monitoring using these tools. With the concurrent review of the Beijing Platform for Action, this meeting provides an opportune time to revisit the accountability gaps and ways to address them.

Objectives

  • To share experiences of mechanisms on CEDAW reporting, implementation of Concluding Observations and monitoring mechanisms at country level;
  • To revisit the commitments made by Members States through CEDAW, Beijing Platform for Action and other normative frameworks and review accountability gaps;
  • To share monitoring tools for implementation of CEDAW Concluding Observations including Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) tools.

Expected Results

  • To develop a set of monitoring and accountability tools for NWMs on monitoring implementation of CEDAW Concluding Observations;
  • To develop a template and process plan of action for the implementation CEDAW Concluding Observations.
