UN Women and the European Union to host ‘Inspiring Change’ conference on 10 March in New Delhi

New Delhi, 4 March 2014: To mark International Women’s Day, UN Women and Delegation of the European Union to India are jointly hosting the ‘Inspiring Change: Equality for All’, a one-day conference at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on 10th March.

The conference will pay homage to remarkable women and organizations that have played a pivotal role in strengthening women’s rights in India.

This event provides a unique opportunity to discuss issues including how youth, men and boys can inspire change, how to ensure gender equality in governance and politics and the role of the Corporate Sector.

The EU will launch its new film, ‘Women who Inspire,’ which presents true stories of individuals working across India to promote gender equality. During the conference, UN Women will launch, ‘Hearts & Minds: Women of India Speak,’ a report detailing the situation of women in India struggling with pervasive patriarchal norms resulting in rampant cases of son preference, female infanticide, domestic violence, child marriage, and a high rate of maternal and infant mortality.

About 200 participants are being invited among central, state and local governments, parliamentarians, EU members states present in India, EU and Indian corporates, think tanks, academia, the media and other civil society and people’s representatives, including women’s rights organizations’ and activists.
