#HeForShe Roundtable at Dhaka Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh - UN Women Bangladesh; The Swedish Embassy to Bangladesh and Prothom Alo, a prominent Bangla newspaper, organised a round-table under UN Women’s global #HeForShe campaign as a part of 16 Days Activism (25 Nov-10 Dec). The round table focused on role of masculinity in preventing violence against women particularly in Bangladeshi context, through awareness against patriarchy and discrimination in systems. The participants were also encouraged to express their reflection on pledges made in #HeForShe launch in March 2015. It was followed by renewed and new commitments by each participant. Moderated by His Excellency, Johan Frisell, Ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh, several prominent men, holding leadership positions in various arenas, attended the round table.

They include: Matiur Rahman, Editor; Anisul Haque and Abdul Kaiyum Mukul, Sub Editors, attended from Prothom Alo. The other participants were: Robert D. Watkins, UN Resident Coordinator; Palash Das, Assistant Country Director, UNDP Bangladesh; Srinivas Reddy, Country Director, ILO Bangladesh; Azim Mohammed Shahidullah, Vice President, BGMEA; Korvi Rakshand, Founder of JAAGO Foundation; Nasimul Ahsan, Advocacy Chief, INCIDIN Bangladesh; Misha Ali, Director, Marketing, Bikroy.Com; and Iresh Jaker, Actor & Advertising Professonal. Christine Hunter, Country Representative; Antara Ganguli, Acting Deputy Representative; and Mahtabul Hakim, Coordinator-EVAW, participated from UN Women Bangladesh.
