UN Women Executive Board Bureau’s first visit to Viet Nam to focus on future development priorities on gender equality and women’s empowerment

Ha Noi – Executive Board Bureau of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, begins a field visit to Viet Nam today to enhance the Bureau members’ understanding of the extent and ways in which UN-Women cooperates with the Government of Viet Nam in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women. This is the first visit ever organized for the Bureau of the UN Women Executive Board.
During their five-day visit, UN Women Bureau will meet Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen, Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong, Chair of the Parliament Committee for Social Affairs Truong Thi Mai and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ha Kim Ngoc. Other meetings with high-ranked Government officials are with leaders in Da Nang City and Hue City, along with the leaders of the Supreme Court and civil society organization representatives to discuss UN Women-supported Government efforts to enhance gender equality and women’s empowerment as well as reduce the gender gap in the country.
UN Women Executive Board Bureau will lead a discussion on preventing violence against women with members of Youth club on gender-based violence prevention at Sport University and Domestic Violence Presentation Club in Da Nang city. During the discussion, the Executive Board Bureau will underscore UN Women’s commitment to support the Government in preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls.
The trip also includes a meeting with Vice President of Central Women’s Union and leaders of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee to highlight the roles of women in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
UN Women Executive Board is the overall governing body of UN Women for operational and coordination mandates. It provides operational policy guidance to the Entity based on the General Assembly resolution 64/289. Members of the Executive Board are elected by UN Member States for a period of three years.
