In Focus: 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence in Asia and the Pacific

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, from 25 November to 10 December 2024, is a global campaign that highlights violence against women as a critical human rights issue. Through the UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence Against Women initiative, UN Women joins global efforts to raise awareness, push for prevention, and demand accountability to end violence against women and girls.

This year, as the world approaches the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the UNiTE campaign calls for increased accountability, stronger national strategies, and enhanced support for women’s rights organizations. Despite global progress, VAWG remains prevalent across both public and private spaces, with the most extreme form being femicide. The 2024 campaign emphasizes the urgency of preventing gender-related killings and demands action to protect women and girls everywhere.

Under the theme “Towards 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women,” the campaign calls on governments, civil society, the private sector, and all UN partners to strengthen their commitment and accelerate progress toward eliminating violence against women and girls.
