Across Bangladesh Government, feminists, activists, private sector, donors, stakeholders, and communities marked this year’s International Women’s Day (8 March) through myriad events recognizing women and girls who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation and response, and to honor their leadership and contribution towards a sustainable future. 

Bangladesh has been a champion and front runner on disaster risk reduction and climate change action with UN Women being an integral part of it. Acknowledging these efforts and to advance these gains further with a focus on the priorities of marginalized women and girls, climate resilient infrastructure and increased gender responsive financing, BCO Head of Office,a.i. attended a number of high level events and dialogues.

Gitanjali Singh, Head of Office, a.i, UN Women Bangladesh attended the “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” event on 7 March 2022 convened by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MoWCA) and delivered her speech as the Special Guest. Dhaka Stock Exchange, IFC, Global Compact, the Embassy of Switzerland and UN Women Bangladesh jointly organized a virtual event “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” on 14 March 2022 to highlight the importance of women’s economic empowerment and the role the private sector, where the Head of Office, a.i, UN Women Bangladesh delivered her speech as a special guest. She also joined as a panelist at a dialogue hosted by the High Commission of India, Dhaka on 8 March 2022 to mark International Women’s Day 2022.
