UN Women Nepal: Leading the Charge for Gender Equality
UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. Within the UN system, UN Women is mandated to lead, promote and coordinate efforts to advance the full realization of women’s rights and opportunities. By leveraging our strategic coordination efforts, we bring together key stakeholders within the UN system to champion these critical causes.
Leaving no one behind
As a co-chair (together with UNDP) of the United Nations Country Team's (UNCT) Leave No One Behind Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Working Group, we lead the efforts in ensuring that human rights and principles of inclusion, equality and non-discrimination are at the centre of UNCT’s work in Nepal and that efforts across various agencies are effectively aligned. We build capacities and support measures upholding accountability for commitments to women. This leadership role is vital in supporting both internal and external initiatives aimed at advancing gender equality and social inclusion throughout Nepal.
Preventing Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
In our role as co-chair (together with the Resident Coordinators Office) of the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Working Group, we are committed to enhancing a comprehensive, systemwide platform that addresses issues such as sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment. Our efforts focus on strengthening prevention, response, and support mechanisms within the UN system, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all.
In addition, and as part of the UN Country Team, UN Women Nepal actively contributes the other Working Groups and Task Teams within the Country Team including acting as the alternate chair of the working group on Governance, Federalism, Participation, and Inclusion.
Through these collaborative efforts, we ensure that gender perspectives are integrated into all aspects of our work, driving meaningful change and fostering a more inclusive society.
