Gender-impact flash update: Myanmar flooding No. 2
This is the second Gender-Impact Flash Update on the flooding that has devastated parts of Myanmar. This update was developed by the Gender in Humanitarian Action Working Group in Myanmar to provide insights into the specific impacts of the flooding on women and girls and their urgent needs.
Since 9 September, severe flooding and mudslides triggered by monsoon rains and the remnants of Typhoon Yagi have affected 70 townships in 11 states and regions of Myanmar. Over 1 million people have been impacted, including an estimated 600,000 women and girls.
This Gender-Impact Flash Update focuses on the gendered response to the flooding and draws on the experiences and insights from local organisations on the ground that are assessing and addressing the gender-specific needs emerging from this crisis.
