Shifting Ground

Supported by UN Women’s Fund for Gender Equality for four years from 2011 to 2014, the project “Facilitating Women in Four Endemic Poverty States of India to Access, Actualize and Sustain Provisions on Women’s Empowerment” is implemented by PRADAN in partnership with Jagori. The project works with 75000 women from economically and socially disadvantaged communities in 9 districts of Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal for their holistic empowerment. The project adopts a ‘gender equality perspective’ in developing women’s livelihood options, enhancing their control over economic resources, enabling effective participation in local governance and building gender sensitive accountability processes. The project also strengthens capacities of women to negotiate intra-family issues that hinder equal access to rights, including addressing domestic violence.
