UN Women Executive Board Visits Viet Nam (revised)
The Executive Board Bureau of UN Women visited Viet Nam from 8 to 12 December on its first-ever field visit. The Bureau met with Pham Thi Hai Chuyen, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; Ha Hung Cuong, Minister of Justice; Truong Thi Mai, Chair of the Parliament Committee for Social Affairs; and Ha Kim Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Other meetings with high-ranked Government officials are scheduled with leaders in Da Nang City and Hue City, along with leaders of the Supreme Court and civil society organization representatives. While in Da Nang, the UN Women Executive Board Bureau led a discussion on preventing violence against women with members of the youth clubs on preventing gender-based violence at Sport University. The trip also included a meeting with the Vice-President of the Central Women’s Union and leaders of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee to highlight the roles of women in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.The delegation to Viet Nam included: Gonzalo Koncke Pizzorno, Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Uruguay; Kadra Ahmed Hassan, First Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Djibouti; Helen Beck, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of Solomon Islands; Daria Wolosiuk, Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Poland; and Amy Haddad, Counsellor Development of the Permanent Mission of Australia. UN Women’s Executive Board is the overall governing body of UN Women for operational and cooperation mandates. It provides operational policy guidance to the organization based on General Assembly resolution 64/289. Members of the Executive Board are elected by UN Member States for a period of three years.
