In my dream – justice for dating violence survivors
The video highlights gender stereotypes and social norms surrounding sexual violence cases held by justice providers and gender-blind justice systems. These are underlying causes in access to justice for women survivors of sexual violence. As opposed to commonly held rape myth that sexual violence cases occur in public spaces using force by strangers, studies conducted by the UN in Viet Nam found out otherwise. In that, 86% of the sexual violence cases involved suspects who were known to the survivor. The majority of incidents took place in a private space and the majority of survivors did not have physical injuries. Gender stereotypes and social norms lead to victim-blaming and inappropriate use of reconciliation measures. This contributes to a culture of impunity.
