Launch Event ‘Making Progress in Prevention Possible’ on 30 June 2021
On 30 June 2021, the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific launched ‘Making Progress in Prevention Possible – A monitoring framework for the prevention of violence against women and girls in the Asia-Pacific region’. This framework, prepared by the Equality Institute for UN Women, responds to the need for a prevention monitoring framework contextualized to the Asia-Pacific region using an intersectional and whole-of-population approach. The purpose of this monitoring framework is to guide policymakers and practitioners through the key components for building a prevention framework that is contextually relevant to countries in the Asia-Pacific region and to illustrate how to measure the change in the short, medium, and long term. During the launch event, Emma Fulu (Equality Institute) presented the latest evidence guiding the work on the prevention of violence against women and introduced the new monitoring framework ‘Making Progress in Prevention Possible’. Using Australia as a case study, Kim Henderson (Our Watch) illustrated ‘what works’ in primary prevention of violence against women and their children. The launch event also featured a lively discussion about the topic with Her Excellency Maria Filomena Babo Martins (National Director for Gender and Inclusion Policy, Government of Timor Leste) and Her Excellency Nhean Sochetra (Director of General for Social Development, Government of Cambodia), who shared experiences from their respective countries. Jayne Harries (DFAT) closed the event. For further information about the publication, please see: https://asiapacific.unwomen.org/en/digital-library/publications/2021/07…
