ASEAN has just become as of 2016 an ASEAN Economic Community of 600 million population. It adopted a Vision 2025 where they vowed to integrate 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into its work with deepening integration amongst 10 fastest growing economies and a major "theatre" for Gender Equality.

On her mission to Jakarta, Indonesia, UN Women Deputy Executive Director Lakshmi Puri 'pinned' with a HeForShe supporter title four most senior officials of ASEAN, the Governing body of ASEAN Member Countries: Secretary-General Lê Lương Minh; Deputy Secretary-General for Political-Security Community Hirubalan V P; Deputy Secretary-General for Community and Corporate Affairs AKP Mochtan; and Deputy Secretary-General for Socio-Cultural Community Vongthep Arthakaivalvatee.

Ms. Puri's mission is in connection with ensuring that a new UN-ASEAN partnership and Plan of Action which is being forged will strongly include Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in all its three pillars of peace, security, human rights, socio-cultural and economic.
