Launching of the film “Tama’ita’i Toa: Samoan Women and Governance”
Event description

“Tama’ita’i Toa: Women and Governance” follows the political contribution women have made to Samoa from the Women’s Mau movement to the first elected female MP. It aims to share the vision of the Samoan government as well as its people to ensure women are represented in the highest level of decision making. It also includes the voices of the National women’s machinery as well as civil society on why and how such initiatives contribute to the development of Samoa. As of July this year, the constitutional amendment to mandate 10% of Parliamentary seats for female candidates was adopted unanimously by Parliament. This will have a considerable influence on the 2016 elections and for the role women will play in Samoa’s political future.
Hosted by the Centre for Samoan Studies.
