Event description

WDO Cyber Café

Earlier this year, UN Women Asia and the Pacific and World Design Organization (WDO) “sat together” virtually to collaborate on the persistent issue of violence against women and girls in the region. The collaboration between the two organizations aims to address violence through the lens of design by identifying human-centric, solution-based initiatives that will contribute to achieving several development outcomes such as better health, education, civic participation and gender equality. The first phase of the collaboration is the Generation Equality Asia Pacific Design Challenge. Over the course of two weeks, the participants worked tirelessly to produce an array of inspired, inclusive and thoughtful solutions to address this complex and urgent issue.

By taking a human-centric approach, design offers new opportunities for breaking the cycle of violence. By designing accessible, thoughtful products, systems and services, designers can work to deconstruct and address the social and economic implications of VAWG, while building tools and resources that empower and protect vulnerable individuals.

In support of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, World Design Organization (WDO), in collaboration with UN Women Asia and the Pacific will be hosting a virtual World Design Talk on 9 December 2020. With the goal of stimulating open dialogue around the value of design on the issue of VAWG, this event will showcase the work being done around the world by designers, activists and innovators to end gender-based violence and injustice.

Join us on 9 December 2020, from 8am – 9:30am EST (8 pm Bangkok time), as we explore the topic of design against gender-based violence and engage with a variety of experts in the fields of design, education and research to highlight the role of design thinking in ending violence against women and girls.
