Preventing Violence against Women: Evidence-Based Solutions and Promising Practices from the Asia and the Pacific Region

Event description
Date & Time: February 26th, 11:15 am – 12:30 pm (GMT+7)

Violence against women (VAW) remains a deeply underestimated challenge in Asia and the Pacific. In this region, more than one in four women aged 15-49 have experienced physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence at least once in their lifetime, with one in ten experiencing such violence in the last 12 months.
Rooted in gender-based discrimination, accepted social norms of violence, and persistent gender stereotypes, VAW continues its cycle of harm. While past efforts have predominantly focused on response and survivor support, prevention is crucial to ending this violence once and for all.
The session will explore:
- Ingredients for sustainable change: What key elements in prevention programs can shift harmful social norms over the long term?
- Impactful practices: What evidence-based practices have proven effective for VAW prevention in the region?
- Policy integration: How can national policies and frameworks better integrate and evaluate VAW prevention efforts?
By the end of the session, participants will have advanced their evidence-based understanding of VAW prevention and identified strategic ways to integrate these approaches into broader sustainable development initiatives.
