Event description

The global theme for 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD, 8 March) is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This year’s theme calls for action that can unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all and a feminist future where no one is left behind.

2025 is a pivotal moment in the global pursuit of gender equality and women's empowerment (GEWE), as it marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (Beijing+30). Adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995 in Beijing, China, by 189 governments, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) remains the most progressive blueprint for GEWE worldwide. Under the banner of UN Women's global campaign to mark Beljing+30, UN Women developed the o+1 Bejjing+30 Action Agenda to accelerate progress towards advancing gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

In China, anchored in the boarder Belling+30 tramework and the global umbrella theme of "All Women and Girls for the 2025 International Women's Day campaign, the United Nations in China is launching a digital storytelling campaign featuring powerful and inspiring stories of women and girls, linking to the "6+1" Beijing+30 Action Agenda to amplify the voices of women and girls, spark dialogue and inspire action.

The digital storytelling campaign aims to:

  • Celebrate and elevate the voices and stories of women and girls in all their diversity.
  • Document and showcase challenges faced by women and girls, including the intersecting forms of discrimination. Highlight the support needed or actions taken to remove barriers, enabling women and girls to fully realize their potential and contribute to sustainable development.
  • Raise awareness of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the significance of Beijing+30, aligning with the overarching theme of IWD 2025 and the sixty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69).
  • Communicate as One UN voice to reaffirm the collective commitment of UN agencies towards gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, leveraging the key IWD 2025 opportunity.
