During the visit of UN Women’s Executive Director Michelle Bachelet to the NEST+m public school in New York today, 100 students raised banners that read “I am Malala,” sending a strong message of support to the young Pakistani activist shot last week.

Ms. Bachelet’s visit was part of the UN4U annual outreach programme, which aims to establish a dialogue with young people about the work of the UN, engage and inspire them to take an interest in global issues.

She told students that Malala stands for all girls around the world who are deprived of their right to education. She urged students to join the global movement and stand up for the rights of women and girls. “No girl- no person- should ever have to pay with her life for her rights,” she stressed.
