Social media cards were produced and disseminated around International Women’s Day by different UN agencies in China.

In the recent fight against COVID-19 in China, women from different sectors working at the frontline, formed a key pillar of the country’s national response efforts. They were doctors, nurses, scientists, construction workers, journalists, volunteers, and they all demonstrated outstanding commitment and professionalism in what were exceptionally challenging circumstances.

On occasion of International Women’s Day, UN Women China, together with other UN agencies in the country, leveraged the opportunity and designed an online campaign entitled “A message to Her” to highlight the role and contribution of these women frontline workers during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Using encouraging and inspiring messages, the campaign aimed to recognize and celebrate the important role and contribution of female workers in response to COVID-19 and raise awareness on the need for gender-inclusive response to better realize and meet women’s needs during this period. It generated over 56,702,000 views and 37,240 online discussions in Chinese social media platforms.

This joint advocacy effort involving different UN agencies contributed to bring gender equality and women’s empowerment into the spotlight during these challenging times while marking the global celebration of women’s day.
