What will the new recruits add to the network?
The new recruits, ages 18 – 35 bring more diversity, inclusivity, and direction to the current cohort, currently representing 19 countries in our region. The new cohort brings a range of perspectives and talents; from an Indian musician and artist to a Cambodian biodiversity enthusiast, to Nepali grassroots teachers, to mental health activists, this is just a snippet of the diversity. With this fresh perspective, we are very excited to announce that the new cohort also brings more representation for the LGBTQI+ community and people with disabilities.
Who are the 30 for 2030 Network?
UN Women ROAP launched the 30 for 2030 Network in July 2022 as a youth leadership network that brings together young decision-makers, eminent civic and business innovators, feminists, entrepreneurs, technology pioneers, educators, activists, artists, and more. The 30 for 2030 thought leaders and experts are change makers determined to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Agenda from a feminist perspective, break down gender barriers and make gender equality a working reality in their spheres of influence. The network acts as a voluntary advisory community and an accelerator of exceptional people with the vision, courage, and influence to drive positive change for a gender-equal world.
What have 30 for 2030 done so far?
The first of its kind, the 30 for 2030 Network youth-leadership cohort has collaborated on many campaigns, from 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women, Am I A Feminist: Addressing the Elephant in the Room virtual event, creating the Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV) Toolkit in to launching their online campaign, GenderNet during International Women’s Day 2023 and many more.
UN Women have provided further capacity-building sessions for the cohort within key thematic areas aligning with UN Women’s agenda and the action coalitions. The cohort has been invited to sessions with UN Women’s senior leadership team, campaign design workshops and many more. The cohort have also had the opportunity to speak at key UN events, from the COVID-19 Recovery Dialogue in Bangkok, to speaking at CSW67 in New York on issues affecting girls and youth in the digital world.
A few members in the new cohort have hit the ground running and have committed to helping develop the second edition of the toolkit, making it more accessible and reflective of current times and tech. This second edition is set to be launched a year after the network's launch, in August 2023. Although with this news, the new group also brings new renowned pressure to combat the issues that our youth face today. This upcoming year, the whole cohort plans to focus on innovation, technology, online gender-based violence, sports and acceleration of GEF commitments in our region.
