In commemoration of International Women’s Day and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, UN Women Sri Lanka opened #සමதீவு (SamaTheevu) a public installation that brought to life a vision of a gender equal world.

#සමதீவு offered visitors a glimpse into an island where everyone, regardless of gender has equal rights and opportunities in all aspects of life. It served as a powerful reminder that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also a driver of social and economic progress.

1000+ visitors including school students joined for inspiring workshops involving a range of dynamic, hands-on activities designed to ignite participants' interest in STEM fields. These sessions included engaging with robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT), experimenting with motor mechanics, and exploring advanced tools like 3D printers and sensors. The workshops encouraged students to envision potential STEM career paths, offering a foundation for informed decision-making about future aspirations.
