Smriti Aryal is a national of Nepal and brings over 20 years of professional experience in international development and humanitarian assistance. Smriti joined UN Women Regional office for Asia and the Pacific in 2015 where she initially served as Regional Advisor (2015-2017) in Bangkok and worked in Myanmar as the Head of the Office a.i. (2018-2019). Prior to that, Smriti worked with UNAIDS (2007-2014), UNICEF (2000-2006) in various capacities. She has worked with a wide range of stakeholders including regional and national governments, CSOs and the UN in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam and has a strong background in policy development, strategic planning, programme and team management and partnership development. She has authored and published numerous documents as well as served as peer reviewer in several international conferences and journals.

Smriti holds a master’s degree Master’s in Public Health from University College London, UK, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Gender Studies from Oregon State University, USA.

Smriti has been officially appointed as the Head of the Office for UN Women China and is starting in her new role in Beijing in July 2019.
