After the first five years of the implementation of the ASEAN Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence against Women, this mid-term review was conducted to take stock of the progress of the implementation of the plan so far, highlighting advances among ASEAN Member States to strengthen the prevention of and response to violence against women in the region. The review highlights how all the priority areas are interlinked to each other and how they can be coordinated in all aspects-connecting country and regional initiatives, implementing policy frameworks through standardized quality services, and applying evidence to practice. It draws recommendations to coordinate, monitor and assess the effectiveness of the measures taken, in addition to allocating sufficient resources to implement.

The Mid-Term Review of the ASEAN Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence against Women (RPA on EVAW) and the development of this report were led by the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) and the ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW), in collaboration with the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) and ASEAN Member States. Phase 1 of the review process was supported through the regular resources of UN Women. The preparation and printing of the report were supported through the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative to eliminate violence against women and girls, within the programme “Safe and Fair: Realizing women migrant workers’ rights and opportunities in the ASEAN region”.
