TOWARDS CARING CITIES: A GEOSPATIAL ANALYSIS IN DHAKA

Research-in-Action Series

As part of UN Women's commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, the Research-in-Action series explores the transformative potential of caring cities—urban environments that invest in care systems. Through innovative geospatial analyses, this series maps the supply and demand of care services while accounting for land use and risks from climate-induced disasters, revealing how urban design and policy can shape women’s ability to participate in the economy and public life.

This research directly contributes to the goals of the TransformCare Investment Initiative in Asia and the Pacific, which calls for gender-responsive investments in care systems as a pathway to inclusive, green and sustainable economies. It responds to rising care demands and deep gender inequalities, offering data-driven solutions to build cities where care is a public good and shared responsibility.
